I get my MOT done at test center without garage connected, only work they can do is adjusting minor things like headlight and thats free.
Surely the test cost the maximum allowed around £54 incl. VAT but saves in long run as they do not invent faults like those doing repairs:)

How does that save? You can tell any garage not to do work, and you'll sort it yourself. :)
 
The usual failure relating to corroded pipes on the P38 are the rear solid pipes...the one running from the connector on the chassis, behind the front r.h. wheel arch cover to the rear of the car and the ones to each rear wheel.It also runs partially hidden across the front of the fuel tank.
The front pipes tend to be good, and those under the bonnet to the ABS unit usually look unmarked and excellent.
