Is agearbox breather necessary on a series2A when going through deep water and which hole on the front brake shoe does the spring fit into. Is it the one near the adjuster post or the one more in the middle of the shoe?
 
Nooo I meant put another post on yer original fred, dunt matter I don't spose. an can you post a pic of yer brakes?
 
yer a pic would be good everyone likes pwitty pictures, i believe you should have a breather on the 'box and if you have a breather i would recomend
extending it
 
Thanks all for replies. Can't send piccys - no camera. 11 inch drums, 2 cylinders. 2 shoes, 2 bloody awkward springs.

I don't think your specimen tool is made from a coathanger ..... looks more like eighth welding rod to me ....

You wouldn't be telling porkies would you?

Would a 'bent coathanger tool' hook end do it without straightening out?

Neat tool though. I keep a bit of stout nylon cord in my box for when those springs annoy me.
 
IF YER STRUGGLING WIFF SERIES SHOES' TAKE THE HUB OFF AND THEN PUT YER BRAKES ON its a tad more larbour intensive but easier by far. 'caps lock stuck=
 
Yer right Charlesy spring pullers.JPG I've got 3 of em an two are made from coat hangers dunno what the other ones made from but they all work, and make even the most stubborn of springs a breeze to attach. They are a boon to any tool box.
 
I got two breevers on me Series box. One on a flat plate to the rear & one further forward on the actual casting!
 
i stick the shoes and springs together in place , leaving one end of one shoe out of the cylinder. then lever the fooker into place wiff me big screw driver. unless ave gort the hub orf when its dead easy to install them
 
Looks like I'll have to take tunnel off then to look for these breathers. Bet I never find any deep water when I eventually extend them. Thanks all for input, very helpful.
 
The bent coat hanger did the trick. Front brakes now back together. Lots more work to do before I drive this thing. I've only ever been towed in it so far . Thanks all.
