I know this subject is well covered, but my question is this: Is the "rivet to bolt and locking nut" fix recommended, or is it masking other issues.
My problem is a small oil leak from the riveted head, but my brakes seem fine.
I read on another forum that significant amounts of oil finding its way into the cylinder of the pump would suggest that the seal on the piston is defective.
To add to my confusion, I have also read that newer genuine or allmake parts are not as well made as the original one fitted 18 years ago due to the copponents used "something about a copper seal" so I am not that keen on replacing the unit.
So, my brakes are fine and I have an oil leek, will I be doing the right thing by Just replacing the gasket and doing the rivet fix? Should oil be that far up the unit?
I am keen to know what the mechanics on this forum think.
Thanks in advance.

as long as cap is secured it doesnt matter if its bolts or rivets

OK, excuse my ignorance, so the plate that is riveted down is leaking oil, but should oil be behind that plate, or has a seal sowhere inside the unit failed, allowing the oil to make its way behind the plate????
I have tried finding an exploaded view of the pump to understand what goes on inside it, but haven't found anything.

not too much but most seem to leak so cant see its an issue ,wear on the push rod were it contacts cam or piston hittng end plate might be though

Thanks for your help JM, in that case I recon I will have a go at changing the rivets for bolts and see what is going on inside.

If it all goes t1ts up and you need a spare one I've got one I can post you for 50p, half a packet of chocolate hob nobs and a curly wurly:D
