replaced rear brakes with slotted and drilled disks and mintex pads from paddocks - original pads had shims behind them now knackered the new pads had nothing. The result is driving me and my neighbours round the bend ! Paddocks say that the shims are not listed or needed with the mintex pads - tried copper grease, duct tape ( good for 3 kms ) anyone got any ideas ? :nospamhere:

Had same problem some years back, after some research bought a set of Lucas pads and been noise free ever since.

sometimes it is just the pads.
have you checked the calipper pistons are returning smoothly and they are not corroded

Mintex pads are **** had them in my 300zx they squeeled faded really bad and nearly put me in ditches a few times from faded and grabbing changed to delphi pads had no trouble. Also had them fitted in the rear of a customers 110 hi cap they glazed the dish and squeeled like mad within 200 miles :/

copper grease on the rear of em and also chamfer down the leading edges on yer pads.;)

thanks for the notes - tried putting back some delphi pads on one side- now only the mintex side squeals - gonna change them both back to delphi and never bother with mintex again.

Best way to go they just dont seem to bed in very well and then squeel like a piggy

its not necessarily because there mintex ive had it with most makes its just combination of pad and disc

Just put whole new set of shoes on didn't know about the mintex squeal... but I do now!!! have chamfered, copper greased, sanded, cleaned, prayed, still squealing!! also noticed driver side squeals more, and is less effective at braking than the passenger side. It's a bugger, cos I failed MOT on unbalanced front brakes, which is why I changed the shoes, and cylinders.. have test driven it all day to balance. I even tried test braking with the drum off, while holding the shoes on, just to make sure the cylinders were effective.. seem to be better now, although still squeak!! maybe will get some better shoes, when I get my nest £50 or so!!
