Hello evryybody.

Does anyone know if a brake shield is required for an MOT pass please? Mine literally turned to dust in my hand and I am struggling for time to replace it before the MOT.

Thanks Paul

Just had a read on some replies on Google!!
It seems that it not? (If it's not there)
But! If it's falling apart? Or damaged it may be? or an advisory ?

Have a gander of Google??

Leave it off.
It’s not there, it’s not an issue. Leave the other off too otherwise you may get an advisory as missing.

If it’s rusty and rattling around it’s potentially a danger not good, if it’s rusty but fixed, it’s not structural so again should be fine.

Long time since I had to put a car through a UK mot, but there is still some sense with testers.

My own opinions only.

Mine are rusty and where I take it likes advisories, had one for the car being wet underneath. Never mentioned the brake shields. Any bits that are loose pull them off.

Not needed.
But if hanging off might be an issue.
If it is rears and you have drum hbrake them the shield also holds the brake shoes, but it is the outer tin bit that rots and this does not hold the shoes.

My Freelander 2 passed about a week after the driver's side one fell off.
I've now replaced it with a shiny new one, but they're not an MOT requirement.
Did you need to take the hub off to replace it it did it just bolt on?

My Front nearside was destroyed still partly on but mostly ripped off, passed MOT, not even an advisory 😂

My Toyota passed with both rears missing and no advisories

Thought this had already been agreed. If its not there it cant fail, as long as its not saftey related which in this case it isnt
A bald spare would fail, but no spare wont 🤔.

I suppose the logic there is if you get a flat or breakdown you get it towed but if you have a bald spare people would rather install an illegal tire than get a tow 🤷‍♂️

Take out your illegal spare for the Mot.
Get caught trying to get home on an illegal spare.

Choice is yours 🤔.

Buy a new trye?

Call the RAC and get them to take you home?
TBF I have never been so tight that I have ever had an illegal spare

Again the Fred is more about if ifs dodgy but not there it can’t fail.

A spare tyre if in the car and illegal its a safety issue, if it’s not in the car it’s not.

Most new cars don't even have a spare as standard, some don't even have space for a spare, like our EV.

So without a spare it’s a pass.
With an illegal spare it’s a fail.
Without a brake dust shield that is in danger of falling off it’s a pass, with it might be a fail 🤔.

Don’t even know why I am getting drawn into this it’s obvious to a blind man:vb-groan2::vb-groan2:

I see the issue here 😂 You're assuming a UK MOT Makes sense! It does not 🤷‍♂️ (If it causes a safety issue it will likely fail an MOT, safety is Braking, Steering, Controlling and Airbags / Seatbelts)
