Hi my Range Rover Sport diesel 2006 2.7 has developed the bubbling sound behind the dash and the dreaded hard brake problem I know it oil in the brake servo but my question is can I use a servo from a discovery 3 or any other model apart from my own model. Thanks

Go buy september issue of land rover owner mag, @rayc59 page 120 and have a read.

Beware that even physically interchangeable servos can have significantly different internal specification & could make the brake pedal feel very different (better OR worse).
I think the only way you'll find out if another model's servo is useable is if you can get hold of the relevant online parts catalogs & check if part nos are the same. Vehicle manufacturers certainly try to standardise on common parts wherever they can.

I would get like for like for your RR, as said there may programmed differences between models.
There is a lot of parts sharing but electronic parts can differ in parameters. ;)
You could try either way and let us know:D

I'd be worried where the oil came from, is this a common fault?

Thanks for the reply lads so it looks like I will buy like for like as to the recalls I think land rover have been very scetchy about this problem trying to hide or ignore it even vosa are not aware of it according to their website

Might be worth having a word with trading standards.

The D3 was brake vacuum piping modified under warranty if the owner complained of heavy brakes and oilwasfoundin the brake booster. I'd have thought this would have applied to the RRS as well, considering they're effectively using the same running gear.

I have the same model on 98k miles and experienced the bubbling. Initially was told it might be the head gasket on it’s way out but the local LR specialist investigated and found no leak. I then mentioned the brakes playing up. Turned out the servo had rusted and was leaking. The LR Specialist gave me the option to surf the web for a servo but I opted for them to get a new servo from the local LR dealer and the LR Specialist fitted it for £550 all in. I’m not mechanically minded and don’t have the tools or facilities so couldn’t have done it myself. The price seemed fair to me in the circs. Certainly a relief not to be the head gasket which would have been a hell of a lot more. By the way - the recall referred to by others had already been attended to - in 2009 apparently.
