Silly question: I have an 02 model with 80k on the clock.

My front pads are really worn now and I'm going to replace them. As I had a slight brake bid that alerted me to it.

Three questions:

1. Do worn pads cause brake binding?
2. How easy is it to warp a disc?
3. Given age and mileage; when should I replace discs? (They look worn but I'm not sure if they are past it)

At 80k miles i would change the discs its an easy job just make sure you get correct vented type also new pads and a smidge of copper paste on the moving parts [not on the discs or pads] :) :) :)
 
if you are unsure - renew the discs or have someone who knows take a look, ,its not worth taking risk with safety,
but at 80 k providing they have been looked after they could still have lots of life left in them ,
binding brakes ,, make sure the caliper is free to slide on the pins

Where do I get the parts.

Now Halfords is down the Road, as is Mr Local Parts Shop.
Ebay has good deals...

Is there a big difference between 'cheap' / 'regular' / 'High-end' sets.

There are sets on Ebay for 50 odd quid. But if they are **** I wont bother.

I sure have looked after them, to describe the condition, (though one got a little hot today for maybe 3 mins and cooled naturally): I would say

No grooves.
No scars or rust
Edge is a bit rusty (circular rim)
Dip between edge and worm part of disc , maybe 1.5mm , I 'm estimating.

but - 'runout' ??
you will feel a pulsing in the brake pedal if theres run out (warped disc)id replace discs with pads there not that dear unless buying ec discs if in any doubt and yours dont look as new

No, there's no pulsing.
I've simply got worn pads (very worn, but not to metal) and it got hot short short amount of time today. It's cool now, I'll do a short test in the AM for pulsing.

If there's NO PULSING, I think I'll get a set of pads (and maybe a cheap set of discs if they are in stock) ASAP for it and then in the new year get the EBC set up.

My only concern now is getting that ruddy bottom bolt off to free the calliper :)

I sprayed it and left it over night! :)

Well I'd say -sticking piston- passenger side.
Drivers side was fine, I think it was sticking due to recent under-use, freezing weather, dirt and worn pads.

Sounds about right ; eh?

It's likely sticking due to age and the fact the passenger side gets more water and dirt thrown at it than the drivers side ;) Prime candidates are the pads stuck into the carrier due to rust under the shims and the sliders will be far from free too . At 10 years old the seals and piston will be past there best!!

Makes sense ; thanks.

I should point out; I have cleaned the calipers and replaced pads more than once in 10 years!! The last time; 3 years ago. :)

I'm not sure how to service the pistons; but the sliders are just screws right?
 
If you have any dip as you say from the edge then it is time to replace, as just putting new pads on will not brake well, as the "dip" will take a time to ware into the new pads and you will not get full braking . Its you life you messing about with and any other person thats in the car it is not worth it
