hi all right i need help the brake pedal on the nightmare disco have gone hard iv done all the checks that every one have said on here and still no luck the valve are good the servo is good the vacuum pump is good the brake pads are cool so could it be the brake pressure regulator :confused: has anyone on here had this trouble coz am stuck please anyone help .

check the T piece junction which is plastic and prone to snapping .causes low vacuum .Happened to me ,just a suggestion .
 
the pump is sucking just took the pipe off and put my finger over the hole and the servo is working as its new!
 
that T piece junction bit has a small pipe that runs off it? right! wot is that part that the small pipe runs to called? its next to the air filter! and its not in the haynes manual and will that have anything to with the ballache am having with the brakes? :confused:

The servo - is it new new or new to you ?

Is it the right one for you vehicle ?

I believe some are 'tandem' or 'double-acting' for the later brakes ...

Do you have and use 'cruise control'?

A split in the tubes can sometimes effect the brake system
 
I wish I could measure vac with my finger. Would have savede a fortune on a test kit!...

Now stop being a tit. It sounds to me like either your vac is being lost ( does it have a pedal the first press then nothing?) or you have not enough vac (same as before, builds up enough eventually then after first press is solid, or even worse. Not building enough atall and no pedal from the start.)

I'd start with checking all the pipes for splits. I'd then put a vac tester onit. Or have it tested at a garage. Then find out what it's supposed to be and you'll probably find its fooked.

In my experiences anyways. BUT what do I no ;) don't do it for a living or anything...
 
Sorry to hijack your post ...now ,, its not landrover BUT ... im having the same problem with the cvrw Fox brakes ,,the one in my avatar pic thingy .. ive changed servo , master cylinder , various pipes, bled the system etc etc .. peddle is so hard I can put both feet on it and push against the turret basket with all my weight and it wont budge a mm .. if anyone is a brake expert then id also like to hear from you
 
Mush same as op. vac pump If it has one. I've never seen the engine or even one of these vehicles. So couldn't be sure without looking but servo is just a spring and a diaphragm. If yours is new and all pipes etc is new it's got to be lack of vac, Or is the pedal and servo connected properly. Ie. is the push rod in the correct place on servo
 
An easy check to see if the servo is working is to press hard on the footbrake, then start the engine - if the servo is oK the pedal will sink by as much as 50% of it's travel.

Try it - what have you got to lose?

So as part of the diagnosis it will show whether there is sufficient vacuum or not - without the need of a vacuum gauge.

Why wouldn't he do it, when it costs nothing and takes 30 secs to do?
 
well chaps .. I think my prob might be sorted .. got to bleed the system properly but spent 6 hours stripping the system out ,,, found the return valve in master cylinder was in back to front so it made the pedal rock hard ... got a brand new one out of a box , stripped it and that one was totally built back to front so would never ever work ... wonder how many reme guys threw perfectly good ones away thinking they were duff !! all I can say is ,.. check , check then check again !
 
You bought a new master cylinder that had been built wrong ?! I may have missed this bit but what brand? And I hope you've brought it to the attention of the manufacturer. It worries me that they're selling brake parts that's they haven't built properly.

Also TBL I no what your saying but it doesn't locate the fault. His pedal wouldn't have moved with or without vac.

Yep this happened to me yesterday. Brakes worked fine when driving normally with high engine revs but then in a carpark I almost hit a car as the engine was at tick over during parking.

Little pipe had split and come off.

Where does this pipe go to anyhow>>>>>>
