Hi guys

Soon i will be re-building my new to me 300tdi / V8 disco rear axle i have just bought to convert my 1988 90 to disc brakes on the rear and will need to buy a brake pipe flaring tool but need to know are the brake pipe nuts imperial or metric on my 300 / V8 disco axle and am i right that the copper brake pipe should be 3/16" O/D :)

Just done my 110 - all metric nuts. I used a "FRANKLIN BRAKE FLARING TOOL 3/16 (on car) AF2003" and it was brilliant (IMHO), much easier than the clamp in a vice type and did a good flare first time every time.

+1 on this. Don't buy one of those cheap ones you clamp together and wind a button down onto the pipe. They make crummy flares. I had to buy one to do a larger diameter pipe which my normal flaring tool wouldn't handle. Took my three goes before I got an acceptable flare. I use the franklin one too. I wouldn't use any over in this price bracket.

Yeah that's the type i have been looking at and not a bad price either on ebay :)

I bought one of the clamp together ones, very easy to make a mistake with them but after some tweeking I get a good flare every time now

Yeah my dad used to have one of these ones and although he was a dab hand at making brake pipes up it took him a while to get used to it, sadly he isn't around anymore as i would have had him make these up, he used to have one of the older style Sickes pickervant ones but lent it out to someone and never got it back

so how do these franklin ones work i take it you screw the die in to do the first flare then unscrew it turn it round screw it back in to do the internal flare i take it you just twist the handle to make the flare
