I have just changed the front pads and discs all went well but I now after a few miles the pads seem to be loose in the calipers. I assume this means that I might have the wrong ones? Has anyone else had similar problems?

Cheers

could be ya fitted em wrong or possibly your calipers are worn. if they looked the same as the ones you took off then they should be right

After fitting them, have you done a bedding-in drive??

If not, try the following:

When safe to do so, get up to 60mph and do a VERY firm braking manouver down to 30mph, repeat about 10 times.

Don't worry if you smell rubber or pad material - it's just them doing their job.

Once that has been done the pads will be bedded-in and normal driving can continue.

Sounds a bit radical I know, but it really does work.

I applied this to both front & rear pads and mine brakes straight true and quickly now.

howdo i had same problem if you have the kit with long pins, springs and little split pins theyre crap i replaced mine with the kit that is two large split pins and a ssprung metal saddle problem sorted

If you run in your pads with the fast slow method let them cool a little beofr the next cycle. If you do no then you may glaze your pads as the resins melt on the surface and you end up with hardly any friction even with new pads.

Do as the big lad says but give it a mile between braking to let them cool. Then she'll be reet!

They are definatly bedded in ok now, they work a treat.

The retaining pins are as mentioned the pins with springs and split pins in the end. This is what was on the fronts as before. The rears are different with the spring metal and long split pins.

It could i supose be the calipers are worn but for both to start at the same time just after replacing the pads, how lickley? The near side one I replaced a couple of years ago for other reasons.

I don't see how I fitted them wrong as they just drop in and then you pop the pins through?

It is like they are just very slightly undersized for the caliper all round. Could it be that I have the ones for the newer 300tdi bits or that mine was post change being a lait 200tdi and I have been suplied with the wrong ones?
