Strange one help please.

Disco 1 300tdi auto

Auto box initially difficult to get of Park but managing when foot hard on the brakes. When gears engaged no issues.

Now won't come out of park and rear brake lights also not working.

relay for auto engaging when button on gear stick pressed and no obstruction to mech.

Im thinking brake light switch would i be right in thinking as you need to have you foot on brake to change the gear selection on auto that this switch has a dual role?

Help or advice very welcome

thanks

Only if you have a Japanese or a North American spec disco will you have the auto interlock, that will restrict movement of the selector from P unless you have the foot brake pedal depressed, so fit the rear brake lights aren't illuminating then it's a good indication that it's a possibility that the interlock relay which is on the same circuit isn't operating, so suggest you check that circuit.

Removal of the ignition key is also restricted by the interlock unless the selector is in park. Something I have to put up with when I drive my auto company car, as its a Honda.

If it is a Jap re import the trick to keep moving is to short the brake light switch with a paper clip .
Had this problem about 6 years ago. Not a hard job to fit new switch. Being a contortionist helps.
I found the information on an American LR website. Also do NOT put lever back in park, use neutral to remove key.
Memory not the greatest now but this may help.
