Hi. Today my brakes have begun playing up.
They work fine until I'm slowing tlat a junction and have to release then repress the pedal.

After some searching I've found this may be a vacuum problem and have found a pipe disconnected with a split end.

Can somebody tell me where it should go as I cannot find it for the life of me.

The loose end should be connected to the egr solenoid which is buried behind the egr valve. If you have an egr bypass then it can be blocked off. Not sure the small pipes have much impact on braking though.

Hi thanks for your reply. Is it the pipe that can be viewed on the egr from the front of the engine?
 
The last time I had a brake pedal that needed a double press it was a shoe that had come away from the mounting pin. The first press put it near the drum surface, then a quick second press was needed to get the extra travel, before the shoe retracted.

A dead brake boost system normally makes the brakes inefficient, requiring a hard press to get them to work.

Brake service in order, and soonish.
 
If its as @guineafowl21 says, then the car is not safe to drive.

There have been instances reported on here where this has happened resulting in complete loss of braking with no advance warning (including on motorways). You look to have had a warning!

Replacing the rear brake shoes is a reasonably quick and cheap job. It is often recommended to replace the drums at the same time, and definitely if they are worn out of spec.
 
Sorted. I replaced the pipe back into the egr solenoid and its working perfectly again.

For some reason I had no notifications for replies so apologies for the late reply.
