Hi All,

The service schedule in RAVE suggests that all the rubber flexible brakes hoses should be replaced at 90,000 miles as well as all the calliper rubber seals. When 90K rolled around the clock I did what RAVE said except I didn't replace the hoses as they all looked fine. That was a few years ago. The car now needs a brake fluid change and new disks & pads so I thought it might be wise to now replace all the hoses during this work.
For my 2001 Vogue I'll need these hoses:
Front
ANR3258 & ANR3259 @ £110.65 each
Rear
2 x ANR5916 @ £27.67 each
RH ANR4704P1 £27.25 & LH ANR4703P1 £20.50 (OEM replacements)

To replace all 6 hoses with genuine LR parts except the rear calliper hoses which Rimmers say are no longer available, but OEM parts are will cost £324.39 inc VAT.

I could go the cheap pattern part route, but for me that's out of the question when it comes to brake parts. An alternative is a set of Goodridge hoses with stainless fittings for just under £120 inc VAT. Now I have fitted this type of hose to almost all the motorcycles I've owned and I like the improved feel of them, but never fitted them to a car.

Anyone on here fitted Goodridge hoses to their P38?

OEM are fine Land rover prices are bloody ridiculous. Land rover stuff from Rimmers plus the one OEM bit they don't have will cost you £408.98. Decent OEM stuff from Island 4x4 will cost you £70.19. You need ANR3258 and ANR3259. ANR4703 and ANR4704 and two off ANR5916.

I think you can get flexible stainless steel brake hoses from somewhere?

You can buy the stainless steel over braid hose and all the different fittings from demon tweeks, rally design etc,I need to do mine as got an advisory on them, simple to make up yourself

Yeah at bloody ridiculous prices. They are not needed rubber OEM are plenty good enough.

Agree rubber ones will be good enough but the ends will still rust and be an mot failure in the future so full stainless one for me ,if your planning on keeping it for a long long time it's worth the extra £40 surely,

You would need a considerable amount of rust on the end of a rubber brake pipe to be an MOT fail. Under normal conditions the rubber is likely to degrade much sooner than the end fittings.

The rear pipes that run over the tank are more likely to rust than the rubber hoses

Correct and the flexi end fitting are fairly substantial bits of metal, you would need serious rust damage to render them to a condition where they could be considered dangerous.

My pipes rusted out over the tank when i was in Sweeden so replaced them there and as i do a high mileage in out of the way places I carry a spare set of rubber brake hoses and copper pipe and flaring tool and unions as well as caliper repair kits and bake pads.

It's ferrules that are rusted the crimped part that clamps the hoses, not very thick steel compared to the rest of the fitting ,I fix quite a lot of mot fail cars with this very problem, stainless fittings for me any day ,don't have to worry about it again

It would have to be seriously corroded to cause a failure. In fifty years i have never known that to happen. Have changed plenty of flexi hoses because of rubber degradation or damage but very seldom just for corrosion. Rubber usually goes long before rusted fittings become a problem. But obviously heavily salted roads in some areas and lack of maintenance maybe a factor.
