Sorry for the stupid question, seached about but couldn't find this. Finally got round to changing the discs and pads on the Disco tonight (2003 TD5). Took me about 15 minutes to get the pads out and caliper off. Retaining screw in about a second with an impact driver.

The disc itself would not shift. Gave it a bit of laldy with a GBH but since the guard covers 75% of the surface I didn't want to batter it continuously on one side as I thought it might knacker the bearing or ABS or something.

I've soaked it with WD and will get the blow torch on it tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone recommends a more peaceful way to remove. Could I use a 3-leg puller with the screw against the hub nut okay?

Thanks
Jock

I justbattered the hell out of mine till they came off & didnt cause any problem, but I may have been lucky. You could use a 3 leg puller ok,I used one to pull my front hub off, so a brake disc would be easy

Thanks for that. I just got some "dismantling lubricant" from local shop and a copper hammer. 10min soak and they came off in 1 minute. Sorry for the fanny question.

However, I've found the calipers in a bit of a mess. The rubber boot on two of the sliders has clearly been off for some time and the sliders are seized solid. That's worn the pads unevenly, and even if I wanted to I couldn't refit the calipers to the new discs and pads. Also, the boots on two of the pistons are properly burst so I wonder what condition the pistons and cylinders are in, although they pushed in smoothly and without any problems.

Anyone got a view on the pros and cons of refurbing both calipers versus bying a reconned one or new? Am going to search about and see what I can find price wise.

There are aftermarket ones you can buy such as ALLMAKES but I cant say how relieable they are, I would take a chance with them myself as they are reasonably priced.
