79 Land Rover 88. I think I've mixed up the brake backing plates whilst cleaning them. Does the brake adjuster side go towards the rear of the vehicle at each hub or the towards the front? Can they go on in any position? The parts manual show the adjuster on the left of picture, the Restoration Book pictures show the adjuster towards the right and haynes have the drawing sideways, I'm confused:confused: I would appreciate help from the forum, the problem I've been having is that the vehicle was restored in the past and not a very good job done nothing can be trusted on the original.

On my Series, the adjusters were always at the front because the pipes came over the back of the axle to a tee and then out to the cylinders.

Hope this helps.

Once had a 109 that pulled hard to the left under braking.Checked all the usual suspects but it was some time later the problem was found, someone had replaced the left front backplate with a righthand one.

Thanks, you are right there is a left and right, mirror images. I am away from the garage at the moment so I will check all of them later, I had two mounted before I noticed a difference, the confusion might have been caused by having a pair the same and a pair different. I recon that if they are mounted with the adjusters to the front of the vehicle (to the right on the driver's side and to the left on the passenger side) as suggested by the Oldseadog the braking would be balanced. I also checked the workshop manual and there is no mention of the correct positions of the backplates. Thanks again.
