Standard hoses aren't just rubber, they have nylon reinforcing inside to withstand the rubber.

Our landlord chucked a pile of new braided s/s pipe offcuts in the skip last week, they make up specialist fittings and hoses, but no auto stuff.

That's useful to know. I was thinking about buying a brake pipe clip - I won't bother now.
