Hi All,

I'm wondering what people have used that is cheap and cheerful for attaching things to roof racks. I'm looking to attach a high jack and a shovel however all the brackets I've seen cost a small fortune and i'm sure there is something cheaper out there.

Also looking for ideas around Jerry Can holders.

Cheers,

Nick

If the shovel is only for "emergency use" and wont be taken down very often, something like this,

I'd then supplement with a cable tie to ensure it didnt come off unintentionally. I always keep a couple of packs of ties in the boot of the car anyway so easy to then replace the spade and cable tie back on.

Not the smartest solution but a cheap one!

yeah I was wanting something with a lock so it couldn't be stolen.

having trouble to find a roof rack mount for the highjack which doesn't cost a fortune :(

Seems for the life of me I can't find one that isn't from Australia and hence has a £50 postage fee on top of costing £20

thought I'd ask again. I've contacted MCB4x4 whom made the roof rack but there communication isn't brilliant and they are charging £50 for the hi Jack bracket but never get back to me with answer to my other questions. Consequently i'm not confident they will be made in time. Anyone else know anywhere I can get them?

This may work incase anyone is interested. Just need to fashion a locking device

saw something like that where they drilled through the rod just above the wing nut and put a padlock through it

know what u mean about brackets being expensive

one of my neighbours who useto have a fender and roof rack got a local machine shop to build all little brackets etc ,

he at first bought brackets etc from a builders merchant and then welded them , he got rid of it ages ago otherwise I could have taken pics ,

Yeah, they sell brackets in Oz but postage is nearly twice as much. If I manage to find a sensible solution I'll post the results for you guys

I thought that but maybe too big!

wondering maybe could u get some square metal lengths , cutting them down to size, then putting a threaded rod through along with a padlock , possibly welding some square metal on it to accommodate the shape of the items u wish to fix to ur roof rack

just trying to think of things as I know some things are silly prices

even been thinking about pipe clips , but then it's stopping them getting nicked

or wonder if timber , with the shapes cut to the profile and putting padlocks through ??

I'm going to wrap a security lock around it so it's mainly about securing the load to the roof rack
