Hiya,
I'm a new landy owner and I'm keen on accessorizing.
I have a disco 3 and am likely to do a bit of outdoorsy stuff.

So, my question is what to put on board?

I was thinking a nice chest (Are there models which bolt is so they don't slide around?) with:

1 x torch
1 x 12v hanging lamp
1 x tow rope
1 x huge knife :)

What else makes you look proper crocodile dundee!?

Well, most of us carry tools. Being a D3 i'd suggest a Black Box Solution diagnositc system to fix it when it breaks. A few tools, but, there really isn't much you can twiddle on a D3... a big hook device to release the hand brake when it locks on. Tow strop and shackles - not rope. an axe, saw and descent loppers are good - when laning if you come across a scratchy lane you may prefer to legally prune it back than wreck your paint work.

Brew kit... always an essential.

I have a dog in the back sometimes but not sure what benefit he actually has in a recovery/camping scenario. He does do the occasional fart which could kill a horse but that's more of a downside.

I might replace him with a blow up sheep, they certainly seem to have their uses.

Companionship... can't beat that surely? Warmth too... or if you get REALLY desparate... source of food.

Then again... blow up sheep would do that for you too (except for the food part).

Think i need to get a blow up sheep in the back of mine as well, really had under-estimated there usefulness.

Wine bottle corks to hang off the hat. Don't know if screw caps have the same effect.

A big tin of beans ... to throw at the pikies when they try to nick something.

One of those "signalling devices" you spin around on a long string to call LZIR when needed.

I nearly choked on my baguette! :D

Sell the Disco 3 an get a Defender ;)

No no, that's just what owning a land rover does :D. Unless you've got a gaylander. In which case you don't have a sense of humour and are really quite touchy about your flamboyant choice of car ;):p
