Hope this is not the start of things to come.
I am not familiar at all with the 300tdi.

Driving over from Chesterfield all was fine and suddenly she lost power, coasted into layby, engine would start but not rev up or drive the vehicle.

RAC came out tried to start, put some fuel in, would start but not rev up. Eventually would not start at all.

RAC reckons "lift pump" has failed.

Got recovered home, dealer is sending somebody out to look at it on Tuesday, he thinks it's the "lift pump" as well.

Apart from that she looks to be a good one. Better than l expected on the motorway and quite lively too. Well, until it broke down.

Three hour wait for recovery in howling gale and driving snow.

A quick google shows "lift pump" is the fuel pump that supplies the injector pump. Does this sound like lift pump failure?
 
I don't know.

But not my problem as l bought today from dealer. Hope it's nothing too serious though. No warning of failure, just died.
 
Well, the mechanic came this morning and so far has spent over two hours trying to get it going

He said the lift pump had gone, and he also fitted a new battery as the one fitted was past its best.
However from inside the house all l can hear is the repeated sad cranking of dead engine with the occasional splutter.

Let's see what he says when he's finished. The guy is an Army mechanic and seems well versed in Land Rovers.

He says they are currently trialling the G- Wagon
 
Well l don't know. It was running fine then just stopped.
He says fuel is getting to the injectors. It starts on Easy Start but won't run.

Now the missus is saying she doesn't want it. But l said it could happen to any old Landy, and to give it a chance.

The dealer is recovering it tomorrow back to their workshops, so at least they are being helpful, good job it was not a private sale!
 
Immobiliser.....

Fault was an aftermarket fuel cutoff device mounted behind the diesel filter. Still, while it is back with them they are gonna change the cam belt/tensioner after l could not find evidence of replacement in the history.
 
Good to know. Had something similar on a TVR which kept just 'stopping'

Hope that helps you convince your good lady it's a sound one
 
I was just going to mention they said fuel was going to the injectors but then contradicted them selfs fuel saying fuel off did not work...

i had a similar problem, it had a small pinhole in a fuel line and it took weeks to sort out, new fuel line from the fuel pump i think it was and job was a good un
