Here overseas where I live, I’ve been looking for a bottle jack suitable for my Defender 110 CSW, but cannot find anything suitable.

Then I thought “Hey, do I actually really need a bottle jack?” I have the original item, supplied with the vehicle, a device with an extending bit that fits into the square “holes” fixed to the vehicle body and does provide adequate lift, albeit rather slowly.

So I’m still asking that question: “Do I really need a bottle jack, too?”

Any answers, please?
 
I think it's a good idea to ask yourself some questions... What is it that the supplied jack doesn't do that you believe will be provided by a bottle jack?

If it's just that the supplied jack is very slow, then a farm jack is probably a better choice since it'll provide the lift you'll need to be really useful.

I'd also ask myself how often I'm likely to need the jack. If you're not into serious off-roading then hopefully the jack will only be required for tyre changing or workshop work which means you'll rarely need the jack 'on the road' and could use a trolley jack (with a good high lift) in the workshop. On the other hand, if you are going off road a fair bit, a jack might be required more often BUT then a bottle jack may not be the best choice anyway.

Look on e-bay for a bottle jack from a Mercedes Sprinter.
For some reason, they're always for sale and are ideal for Landrovers - a curved saddle on top and a good high lift (2 stage ram).
They seem to go cheap too - I got mine for a fiver.
 
I'd guess is so that companies can gain a bit more payload, without exceeding the vehicles max GVW, by ditching the spare and jack.
 
a lot of companies don't allow their staff to change their own wheels. To prevent them from trying they remove the jacks.

It's the same with hire vans that I have hired; no jack! So you have to use the 'special' mercedes breakdown cover! Found out the hard way...
