Hi, Just enquiring if it is possible to change the top O,ring type seals at the top of the FIP easily?
mine is pouring as much diesel out through seals as into engine, though still running!

Top one is easy, it's the lower one that can be a problem. Don't know if there is a "how to" for this job, seen one on a Vauxhall forum.:)

Thanks Tomcat,
as they say at Tesco, "Every little helps"!
Is there an alternative to the correct socket,(Triangular)anti-tamper screw?
Regards,
Troy

Do you need it for the top part? Wammers will tell you, he's probably having a rest with his nurse at the mo.:) think a 7mm socket hammers on. You can call me Alan by the way.:D

Hi Alan........
Think I may need to change whole pump, (easier) Just been and looked, and also leaking from Hi pressure, (Delivery/Distributor) unit also, so looks like most seals have failed at once! 165,000 miles, have another unit from a 40,000
525 diesel Beemer!
Thanks for help

The pump from the beemer may or may not fit as the flange diameter may be different. Even if it does fit, the electronics in he top will not be compatible with the P38 EDC.

Hi Datatek,
Any chance you can expand on what you say?
Spoke to Bosch tech earlier, and they said pump is identical,
Certainly looks it!

Troy

The pump is identical except possibly for the flange, the electronics are not.

It must have part number 0460406994 stamped on it or it will not work on a Range rover. Some BMW and Vauxhall pumps will mate to the flange, but as was said earlier you will need to swap the centre section upwards over. A pretty pointless exercise. You may as well strip your old pump and fit seals, getting the centre section back in the correct place can be a pain in the butt.

Think that mine has had a replacement engine at some stage, has BMW on rocker covers?
(A mate said normally has Land Rover on!)
Gave them engine No. - They said should be ok even down to electrics,as I had read somewhere that designations A,B,and C were used for settings?

all the p38 diesels have bmw on rocker cover as they were supplyed by bmw but different spec to work better in the p38

Many thanks to all for their input,(Brian,Wammers,Datatek,Alan and Dave)
going to try renewal of seals tomorrow,(Watch this space! lol)
Given me the confidence!
In the words of Arnie, "I'll be back!

Can anyone advise of somewhere in England to get said O-rings?
Most on ebay are Poland;Latvia.

yep i will look up my guy he will be able to supply the correct kit with all the seals you will only need the housing and injector head seal from the kit

tbc.1998 | eBay

this is the guy i use give him a call tell him what pump you have and he will supply you with the correct reseal kit for a few pennies also

LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 1 300 tdi Bosch VE injector pump head seal VITON Seal | eBay

injector head seal get a spare just incase you pinch the first one when reseating the injector head

You really need to know what you are doing to replace the head seal hope he knows how to do it. If the spacer drops it pump out.

When Dopey did his pump the 2 seals for the top and middle had gone. There are a further 2 seals: 1 each side. By the time you've done those you'll probably have cured it.

If you don't get everything lined up EXACTLY as it was it can be a total bar-steward getting it back again. Learnt that over the weekend ...
