hiya

ive been trying to work out about building a storage unit in my 3 door freelander

not sure about if i want a box or drawer unit, as the boot is small trying to maximise its space etc,

dont wish to make it too heavy either, maybe mdf but then concerned it may suffer in the winter

was wondering if u guys would mind putting pics up of your boot storage units on here so i can get some ideas please

dont wish to loose the current underboot storage area , well when ive stopped it filling up with water that is, lol

as ive become a volunteer for this response group need to store, towing equipment, water, supplies etc

seen premade ones but are seriuos money and seem to be designed for the larger off roaders

Hi Gary,

I've put a shelf in mine.

It's covered with rubber matting and has a strip of angle iron across the front of it now.

many thks for posting the pic, thats the kind of thing and see youve also contoured the top panel around the boot

been also trying to think about the boot lid area and been trying to find a slide out base shelf unit

so if it has a shelf that slides out with the container on it and then underneath will have access to the lower boot area and as it will be hidden maybe a bit more secure etc

need to also make sure it cant move whilst going off road and dont turn my car into a washing machine

I got my 'modular' storage system at Lidl - on special offer.

Stackable, interchangeable, recycleable, highly adaptable, comes in 2 basic sizes that interlock.

There are lids availiable which I only fit to the top layer.

An excellent system - and spares are availiable everywhere.

I'm talking of course about fruit and vegetable boxes.

No joking - they fit perfectly, interlock and don't slide.

Best open top small ones are the beige 'wood-finish' garlic boxes.

The lidded aubergine boxes are good too.

Best big ones are the Austrian apple boxes.

You can't get a cheaper or greener solution.

B&Q do drawer sliders. for slideout shelves. designed for pooter tables etc but will do the job just as well in a Gaylander (other vehicles are available and preferable )

ive actually got 4 x orange halford boxes but think i will only be using 2

think i will have to remove the sunroof storage bag

just trying to keep the weight and cost down and see no problem with must using the orange boxes ive got

appreciate this and it will give me plenty of ideas

hiya thats a bloody good idea and thats the kind of thing i was thinking about so i can still have access to the lower boot area and not having to try and lift the boxes up

seen some black carpet as well to stick on the top

This is my solution, a simple one shelf system with a pullout stove, drawer runners are B&Q, still have access to the cubby box to feed the fish that live there

. I have the hole covered with a thin piece of chequer plate now, keep the Bushpig & KER rope & some camping stuff in the space above the cubby box. I've removed the right rear seat, the double one, & made a platform for the dog & installed the fridge freezer next to the small seat where I install my Daughter. The top is made of 6mm buffalo board left over from when I made the roof rack deck. The plastic case with the jack & wheelbrace in it has since been removed altogether cos I bought a "proper" Disco II hydraulic jack which lives in the space to the right of the top shelf with the coffee pot. Have filled the cubby box with things that I wouldnt need in a hurry, spare fuel pump, cam sensor, spare belts, bulbs etc.

This is mine, sorry about the poor photo. It also has a pull out shelf directly underneath for the camping cooker / toolkits etc etc. The big box on the right of it is the secondary battery rig, relays, fuseboxes and strobe controllers. (all 4x4R kit) My current design is about 5mm too wide in the box area (although it wasnt originally) to open the boot hole, but with a little sanding down should be fine to clear it.

I've got a tin shed in the garden,I can put four wheels and a Defender badge on it if you like!!!!!!!???

if its home made may i ask how u did it and got the bits fromt please

It's 15mm mdf cut to fit, covered in carpet, with alloy angle. The 2 front legs are adjustable legs cut down, and 2 wooden blocks at the back. The slide out shelf is mdf with alloy plate, and plastic angle. So easily cleaned. Sliders, legs, and mdf are from b&q. Alloy angle from homebase. And other materials are blagged lol

Here's it all kitted out to go green laning, waffle boards go on the roof when fully packed. There's also d rings on each corner for strapping things down.

no roof canopy .. just a pull-out basic extension to use as a camping sleeper unit ..

Never occurred to me to put the stove longitudinally rather than transverse. Brilliant! And just before I start out finishing my90.
