Hi all

I have got the MOT coming up and after a lengthy argument with the local MOT inspector about the repairs required to my mates disco i thought i would get some advice.

The Boot floor is corroded in the usual places and as such i need a new floor and both side panels, my thought is to make my own one piece panel out of a sheet of 3mm thick plate. Is there any reason why this would not be acceptable as a replacement panel?

That's exactly what I'm replacing the floor with, got one from another disco that was being broken, so just need to weld it in now ;)

as long as the repairs are fully welded(not just tacked) then its 100% fine,
oh and tbh 3mm is a little overkill imo would stick with something closer to the original floor thickness,

you could always just whip out the rear seats then the tester would have nothing to fail it on lol

Apart from the seat belt mounts, the boot floor does not come into the MOT.
My old boot floor was in a right mess, but I only got an advisory on it..
I pop riveted the new floor in with no probs..

This is correct, as long as the belt mounts are solid and there is no rust within 12" of the chassis/belt mounts then all is fine, the boot floor is NOT a failure!!

I personally got the boot floor replacement panel (55-60 quid) but fabricated the cross members from some fairly heavy duty rectangular box section.

It's nice and solid, did some thorough testing by jumping up and down on if once welded in. Coped no prob and im a 16 stone big lump

All my MOT bod was worried about was seat belt mountings , he didn't care what the boot floor was made of or how it was fixed...
My new floor is two pieces of 5mm Ali screwed in..... but all other bits of rot round the area was cut out and new steel welded in.

iv just (in the process) of doing mine, im using 1.5mm steel with home made supports, the seat belt mounts are getting cleared up and put back in securly. 1.5m is plenty strong enough for my needs.
