I have just bought the three sections that make up the boot floor. Can anyone offer me any tips or handy hints on the job.I can weld and use an angle grinder ok but its not something I have done before.

Get some extra sheet steel in for starters, and be prepared to need all the floor strengthening pieces below. Be careful removing the tank access hatch, and be very careful when cutting out your old floor - there's a brake pipe below that a few have cut through. Also, while you're under there, thoroughly inspect the chassis in that area. It's one big rust trap.

screwfix spot weld removal carbide drill thing
shultz and gun from machine mart etc.

its one of the easier welding jobs - youre above the job, and its not all falling in your eyes

Its not as bad as it seems as i have just replaced the whole floor on my other d1 i have just got.

Just take your time and lay all 3 parts down before welding up the sides so the main middle floor fits as easy to knock the sides out of place when welding them up for the middle not to fit ;)

Apart from that, as mentioned above be aware of whats below....fuel tank, fuel lines and brake lines and if cautious place some metal sheets under the floor when welding to protect the fuel tank.

Enjoy and have fun!! Plus don't forget pics :)

Just make sure you cut out all of the crap and rusty stuff, even if you have to fabricate a bit of the floor with additional metal, as it will be better in the long run.

This is what I had to deal with....
