I am considering fitting a boost pin and ring to my 300tdi. I understand that the pin is an easy job but removing the cap where the ring is to be fitted is very, very fiddly. Any pointers before I pull the complete injection pump out?

You don't need to pull the pump out.

Cut down an allen key and a 90 degree T30 Torx wrench. There is a vid of the install on Forbys website if you are buying the bits from them.

The vid is a bit misleading. In the vid, the job had already been done and the bolts had been replaced with Allen bolts hence, a cut-down allen key was sufficient. I don't have 90 degrees torx wrenches (will buy if necessary) but to my knowledge, torx wrenches cannot be cut down as the torx bis is only on the end, unlike allen keys that are hexagonal throughout.

I used one of those tiny ratchets from a kit I bought ages ago just for the tips. I had to put a ring spanner on it to get enough leverage but the tool worked perfectly.
