I fitted one of the cheap 7 quid copy looms to my s2 a year or two back, still working, but the comments about them being cheap crap are pretty much on the button.
So are the cheaper ones tge same as the paddocks ones ?

Have you a link to the cheap paddocks ones?
Edit just looked, and yes it does look much the same as the 30 quid paddocks one, take e a look on ebay for headlamp upgrade loom, loads on there from 12 to 50 quid.

If you are unsure treat the 12 quid one as an practical lesson to copy when/if you make your own version.

I fitted a Boomslang together with Wipac crystal lenses - a big improvement. I'd say the light output is as good as many modern cars, but not stupidly dazzling as many are. It's certainly not without flaws - the headlamp bowls had to be cut to allow the headlamp plugs through. I tried removing the wiring from the plugs so that the wiring would pass through the existing hole in the bowls, but the ceramic plugs are fragile and had to be reinforced afterwards. I fitted the relay unit well out of the way inside the wing (just behind/below the power steering reservoir) and used convoluted conduit to protect the relays and wiring, and also gave it all a thorough spray with water displacement. I guess it's been fitted for about 4 years without any issues.

Like others I made up my own for both Buttercup and my 200Tdi 90. Oversized cabling right back to battery with quality fuses and relays throughout, protected with convoluted sleeving.
It cost more than those on sale on tinternet but I made sure I had enough wire to route it where I wanted it rather than just where it would fit.
Overall a huge improvement, though I do have wipac cyristal lenses and Osram nightbreaker bulbs as well.

Osram Nightbreakers...been using them for some nine years now in all the cars. They're superb H4 jobbies. Have tried the longlife's, they're very robust but a bit dim. The blue jobbies are similar to standard units but I found these have short lifespan. So now keep to standard Nightbreakers in three very different lenses...Wipac Crystals, MGB high end 7" after market lenses and original/factory Subaru Forester lenses.
