Pictures look awesome, stay safe out there!
It's called the Death Road, how safe can it be
Seriously though, It's not that bad, they hype it up quite a lot for adventure tourists. If the Beeb let Clarkson drive it, it can't be that bad, I mean Health & Safety would have to have approved it. Pretty much all the deaths have been locals in rickity trucks and busses. But then you could get taken out on any road.
Apart from being carefull, I have mates with my GPS tracks and itenery, and if I don't turn up somewhere, someone will come looking for me.
@ Paul, it depends on the hotel of course, I like 4 star (there are no five star hotels in La Paz), so I rekon this trip will be in the region of 3k, but I haven't actually counted.
Get on Expedia, and do a flight hotel deal and see what you can get.
I went with AVIS for the car, which was a mistake, as they are going to charge me another $700 for driving on the salt flats. Probably better to use
Petita Rent a Car Then you could also sleep in the car to cut costs.
I do think it makes sense as a trip, as your prep is minimal, and the reward is as good a trip as you will get anywhere..
You can do the route I posted in two weeks easily, but expect to feel a bit **** for the first few days and get no sleep as you get used to the altitude..
