Adding chequer plate to the bonnet wouldn't do much other than add more weight, hinges wouldn't take it too well.
I'd go for doubling up on the spare wheel carrier, the back door holds my weight no problem, so can't see it being a problem holding another spare. Get yourself some stud connectors and threaded bar with a few washers and job done.
A swing away carrier wouldn't work, whats it going to mount to? There's nothing strong enough either side of the door.

If there's space, you could stand a spare wheel up vertical inside the boot and strap it down, or lie it down flat under your luggage, depends how much stuff you'll be taking with you, although I guess you'll be taking a fair bit!

even better soloution just buy a defender 110 then you have bonnet and door mounted wheels as standard. just saying........... :)

What about a front bull bar and mount it on that? I would put it on the rear door but just opening up possibilitys

The spot lights & hi-lift jack will be mounted to the nudge bar.

Either I'll be sleeping in a roof tent or more likely in the car on a shelf in the boot & folded seats.

Extended studs on the spare will probably be the best option. At least the rear door is hinged & braced with a piston.
