hi
When we recently bought the series 3 the bonnet wouldn’t close properly on the latch it kept popping up to the intermediate position...so I altered the main large screw with the spring on and now it closes fully and opens when you pull the latch but there is no intermediate position...should there be, or is it just open and close....your help would be appreciated please...Spencer

The bonnet latch can be a right git to get right at times. There should be an intermediate positon for safety. One important thing is to get the latch central to the pin, loosen the latch to grill bolts then close the bonnet to center it,tighten bolts and check the pin is straight. It may be you need to return pin to its original position.Good luck.

Hi tottot....
Apologies for troubling you again...The pin has a slit in the head..is this meant to catch on anything particular...and, in your opinion is winding the pin up and down a question of trial and error...I have loosened the latch plate on the bonnet but the pin is still only either locking straight in without any intermediate setting, or, stays at the intermediate setting and when you push the bonnet close it pops out again to the intermediate setting.....?

Hi Spencer, Just went and had a look at my series 3. If you pull the release lever over and hold it there then both the primary and intermediate positions will release. However If you now close the bonnet [Leaver back to closed position] to the intermediate position it should hold there and only release when leaver is pulled. Leaver should return to locked position on its own but are often reluctant to do so. Slot is just there to turn the pin. Hope this helps John.

Thank you...this again is really helpful...
I am going to dismantle the pin and get rid of all the old grease, clean it and then re oil and reset and see if that also makes a difference...and then take your advice and realign with the latch plate again after regreasing...
My son who is 16 and I bought this in January and it is 95% complete and we have already got to grips with the wiring and completed this and now doing things like the bonnet catche etc before we then go on to preparing the bodywork for a respray..I think we both find it very relaxing and we are taking pics as we go..so no doubt I or Will, will be on here again as we are at the bottom of a very steep learning curve...thank you.

The bonnet catch is quite unusual with its built in secondary latch.Later Landrovers just have a secondary seperate hook.Ask anything and someone on this forum will give you an answer.:)
