I like the idea of bob'ing mine but i need the space in the back for camping/mountain biking/trips to the tip. Also, I have never done any welding and starting with something that big scares me. When i get my welder at the end of the month im gonna start a rebuild thread where people can take the **** out of my welding.

Honestly the worse bit is cutting it up in the first place. I'll do it for ya! My mate turned his back on me with his and the next he knew, I had a 9" grinder through his roof.

Welding is easy but the bodywork being aluminium meant that welding that was difficult as I can't tig weld

Defo the worst part starting it, loved the shape of it, but it was well rusted at the arse end!

Once i got stuck in, nothing was a worry. there is a nice back end you can buy which slots over the cut end so would be rather easy over what i did lol.. all i can say is before you do it, Research and ask lots of questions!

and as greeny said the only bit which cant be welded that might be required(unless you can tig) is the outside wing, but there are ways around that such as pop rivets!

Thanks for the boost but if it was just for off road, id have a go at bob'ing it but like i said, i need the space. I am nervous about doing the welding it needs but I really want to do it myself. Its the front inner wings, drivers footwell and im gonna fill in both rainroofs and alpine windows.

Practice welding first. A couple of bits of steel or even the old inner wings cleaned up with a grinder. You will gain confidence quickly. Trust me, I felt the same but it isn't that bad. It's like piping a cake

B*ll*x, just got halfway through reading this thread then the pictures stopped working! Wanted to see what its like finished, grrr. Cant believe he sold it, can have way more fun in that thing than a Golf!

tbh I dont like the shape of bobtails but that is ####ing awesome, a lot of hard work and dedication gone into this! nice man

Just a question to the builder, how much over hang of the rear door frame did you have past your tyre/wheel. I'm on with mine now and I'm at a stand still thinking its not enough.

Cheers it's just from the tyre it's 8" to the box of the rear door frame(where the body mounts are under) I still think it's not enough, I keep looking and head scratching just to see where needs more of for it to fit or look somewhere near.
