you had me worried then, that much power in a sherpa would pull it apart.the torque steer would be fantastic, fortunately my last one rusted away about 5 years ago

Nope, no BMW doozil went into a Disco here.
2.8 straight 6 petrol, as in the BMW Z3 was put into 2 years worth of Defenders after the V8 was discontinued.

out here a popular replacement for 2.5nad 90s and 110s is the 2.8 doozel bmw engine find there way in to uaz as well but for them most popular is either andoria 4c90 or merc w124 2.4 or 2.8 ford v6

after a bit more digging the engine is a bmw 2.4td with lt77 gearbox

Hmmm, that sounds like a bit of an odd lump. I think the 2.4td would have been fitted to the E30 3 series bimmer (c reg to L reg years) but only sold (stands by to be corrected) by ze Germans in mainland Europe. Before we all went mad for Derv in every thing, Johnny foreigner was zooming around in small diesel cars, and other Europe only models, like a BMW 325ix (4wd), my personal favourite was the Mk2 Golf Syncro, 4wd, jacked up, bull bars and knobbly tyres, straight off the production line and up an Alp somewhere.:crazy_driver:
