Asking a question on behalf of my Dad - he's looking at dropping a new(ish) BMW diesel V8 (I think) engine into a SWB Defender. Several questions:

1) Anyone done this before/is it possible?
2) If so, what needs to be done (ie presumably engine mounts, bell housing... but much else)?
3) How big a job is it to DIY it?
4) Any ideas of costs?

Granted I need to give a few more details for exact answers, and I need to research it a bit myself, but I thought here would be a good place to ask/start.

Thanks for any help received,

Ian

PS Oh, and yes, I'm obviously new to these here parts. Hi.

seema like a waste of time. A Td5 is better and lighter and if youre looking for more power then there are several things you could do to a td5, e.g. put a bigger intercooler in. I think there would be a lot of cutting and welding to do and little gain to be had. A 3 litre straight six bmw diesel perhaps as thats a far superior engine.
