hi all sorry if this subject has been covered but will a 3.0 td6 go into a p38 i am thinking of buying a scrap bmw 530 d thanks in advance:fencing:

I believe the problem is getting the P38's vehicle electrical system (BECM) to talk and work with the 3.0td engines ecu, fitting the engine into the chassis will be the least of your problems, getting the thing to run electrically is another...if you manage it, keep all the details as theres a few others here that will follow you......

The TD6 conversion would be easier, I think it's been done already, it would pretty much drop straight in, only the ECU anti theft/BECM link to sort really.
I was thinking since they've done a lot of custom ECU work they might be able to help with that. They do stuff for that engine (although I imagine while still in a BMW). So one suspects they would be able to make magic happen.

Not cheap though, fair few grand is the order of the day.

A guy here in Portugal did such a conversion, fitting the engine from a bmw 530d to a P38. He never posted many details on the electrowizardry done but i remember seeing lots of pictures about it.

Also there's another fellow in the States that replaced the 4.6 V8 with a 6.2.lt diesel engine from a Humvee . And there's one other guy in RR.net also replacing the V8 with another big petrol engine.

So it is definitely possible :)

just been through it the amount of down time for the car is emense so i think its intercooler and chips lol
Say bye to your gearbox for me. They are running close to their limit with the stock output. By ramping it up you're gonna have a bad time.
