Hi all 4th video is after 20 minutes as you can see the smoke isn’t as bad
At the exhaust end doesn’t smell like oil more like diesel
Only purchased the engine a couple of months ago not sure of it’s history or it’s mileage and it’s a disco 200tdi. Conversion and any of your thoughts would be much appreciated thanks

Sounds better when warm.

the smoke on mine cleared once i ran it up the farm road a few times.

200 tdi is fairly robust, would probably benefit from a good run, you can get at most of it insitu once you get the body back on.

Good luck

Assuming the smoke is diesel, it won't be so bad, because a hot engine is going to vaporise the diesel a lot more, even if it isn't very well atomised when it goes in, or not going in at exactly the right time.
My own suggestion would be to try setting the pump timing first off, you will need a manual, and a pump timing kit will be helpful.

With the oil leak, I think the head will need to come off again, but wait and see what the others think.

I would check the timing for the smoke and your oil leak may be combustion gasses rather than oil, the black soot can make it look like oil. Either way it won't heal itself, I would be inclined to whip the head off and replace the gasket. The job will be a lot more difficult if you put it off until the body is on.

Giving this some consideration overnight.

It is possible that when the head gasket was changed, the rocker gear was not re-assembled with the oil holes in the right position, resulting in pressurisation of the oilways in the head.
It may be that this is also causing the smoke, or there may be an unrelated fuel problem that is contributing to that.

I think you need to remove the head, and check the situation carefully, there may be damage to the head as well as the gasket.

Just had another look at your videos, I would say that the head gasket isn't leaking oil, it is blowing bubbles, which says combustion gasses to me.
There shouldn't be any gas / air in the oil-ways, so leaking oil shouldn't blow bubbles.
Either way, off with it's head.

Hi thanks for your response much appreciated so where’s the gas /air coming from and what’s the issue thanks again ps I was thinking about purchasing a cylinder leak down tester or am I just wasting my money thanks again

It can't really be coming from anywhere but the combustion chamber, and is obviously picking up some kind of liquid on the way to the open air.

You have said yourself that you know nothing of the engine, and it appears almost certain that it has several faults, which appear to be the result of poor workmanship, and/or materials, on the part of a previous owner.

So rather than wasting any more money, I think you need to remove the head and have a good look at what is going on.
