Evening all,

Lots of black smoke, lack of power and won't rev above 3500 rpm on my 300 TDI disco.

Diagnosis, blown turbo

So, do I take a chance and get a second hand unit or take the plunge on a new blower?

Where do I get a new one from?

My local guy has done some phoning around and the best he's been quoted is £540 without VAT.

The cars only worth about 1K so I wonder I wonder if it's worth repairing.

It might not be a blown turbo, it could just be a split pipe on the outlet side of the turbo or delaminated pipes either side. Check that first. If it is the turbo then get a second hand one from a scrappy

Check pipes'd take to turbo as said. Id take the turbo off (or at least the pipes) and inspect it before jumping to conclusions.

Could be injectors, pump etc

I thought blown turbo was lots of White/grey smoke not black

I know Paul Booth who owns Reconditioned Turbos in Leeds : Turbo Clinic UK Ltd here in Leeds and he is a straight as they come in all regards

Might be worth a chat with him and then post it upto him for a quote? I got him to check mine over during my HG replacement which he did FOC

paddocks sell genuine garret turbos for £395+vat hope this helps.

Took about 30 secs to do an Ebay search and found these for less:

I appreciate it only takes 30 seconds but there's so much rubbish out there, I thought I'd seek from those with more experiance in all thngs Landy.

Thanks for the replys, I've taken up Mark on his offer so it's off to Notts this eveing for me.
