Afternoon , I removed heater switches to replace 2002 heater bulbs , however when I pushed blower heater central switch back in it literally pushed the switch into centre console and not it needs finding , of I take 4 screws out it doesn't look as if I can remove switch panel as panel is actually behind black frame , do I need to remove whole of handbrake section and undo it all to get this switch console out or can it be maneuvered under the black frame , advice would be appreciated , thanks

This piece just fell into the ashtray through the back !! Its obviously from the switch and not a complete switch , is this repairable ?

IIRC, when I needed to remove the cigarette lighter, I had to start with the console around the hand brake and work forward. They overlap. I'm not sure if tyou need to disconnect any electrics in the handbrake console as just undoing the mounting screws may give enough movement on it for the panel it overlaps to come out - however, the hand brake may mean it only moves forward so you'll have to completely remove it.

Sorry, can't be more specific. If you do need to remove it, its a good opo to give the carpet around it a good clean :)

This looks straight forward , hope I can salvage the switch !!

I left the gear knob on and just unclipped the gaitor - didn't want to faff around with the HDC switch or what ever. Will be different if yours is an auto.

The only PITA I found was removing the radio housing - don't know what I was doing wrong but couldn't get it out and IIRC there are a couple of screws under it. After I had been swearing and cutting myself for a long period of time, I just trashed the thing into a folded up mess. That was to get the cigarette lighter out of the parts car though - and on my road car I just slid it under the dash panelling and left it lieing in bubble wrap on the transmission tunnel (with dash cam permanently plugged into it). You'll have to get it out properly - it must be possible cos plenty of people remove the complete dash to get at the heater matrix!

Never seen a heater dial do that before. Even though the dial panel won't come out the front, it can be pushed up and down in place by removing a couple more screws. But I would have thought the rest of the dial would just drop out the bottom. The plastic is fairly flexible at the base, so a couple of thumps to dislodge any parts and a feel around to find them.

Ok , I managed to remove the radio and put my hand down the back , I pushed plastic dial ( pictured) back in and the actual switch clicked in behind it , I was more worried about the radio forgetting the code (which gladly it didnt ) thanks for advice , so now blower works , however I still have original problem , the left hand dial does not change blower direction.

I have followed cable and the cable is secure at back of dial and is pushing /pulling when turned , however when it gets right to the other end by the clutch pedal although it is attached to the thing it pushes (Ill try and get an image !) it isn't attached to the body so rather that pushing the metal wire through the outer sleeve it's pushing the whole thing and forcing the wire to return . ( I'm sorry this isn't a perfect explanation ) the wire appears to have some sort of black clip on it , does this clip on to main plastic console (difficult to see) or has this snapped off the body, any advice would be helpful ,I apologise for the poor description

Looking at the image it's the part directly to the right of no.6 , as I say wire is attached it's just where it should be attached to the body

The Bowden cable outer casing is clipped to the heater assembly plastic housing. The Bowden cable inner then pushes and pulls on a lever that's connected to the flaps. Sometimes the clip pings off if the flaps get stiff or obstructed by some foreign object in the heater assembly. The cable outer can also slip out of the clip, if the flaps get stiff and the inside temperature is high enough to soften the plastic cable outer sheath. You need to test the flap is free to move, then work out a way to secure the outer in the correct position, if the clip doesn't hold it firmly in place.

Thanks , yeah the flap is free , If I hold the outer casing and someone turns the dial its all 100% so I'll just have to try and work out of the clip is broken and if so try and attach poss with cable tie?

Don't worry about radio codes. Had my battery off overnight and it didn't ask for the code. Done that numerous time.
If it's a land rover radio, just go into the main dealers with your vin number and they'll supply the code.
Mike

I'll try and get a picture so someone more knowledgeable can see if the clip has come disconnected or snapped , there doesn't appear to be any sharp pieces as if it's snapped. , I'll see what I can do

Here are the pictures , thanks

The part of the cable I've marked with the red dot, should be fitted to the moulding I've marked with a green dot.

It looks like half the clip is missing, but it's been many years since I looked at that part of the heater in any detail.

I'll have a look at mine when this rain clears up.

Thats great thanks , I appreciate that . should a clip be on the cable which clips into the moulding or should the cable just press into a clip which is completely mounted on the moulding ? Im assuming if somethings snapped off the moulding then ill have to find another way to secure it .

I'm not sure without looking at mine. I'll take a look when I don't get wet doing so. ;)

Ok I've solved this , the clip kept coming out and it was definately connected to the wire so I would have had to replace the whole thing . with very little access I attached a cable tie to something solid behind the console and pulled it right securing the cable , so far its worked great and ive lost very little skin from my knuckles , thanks for advice , not perfection , however it works and I didn't have to take console off .
