Hi Folks

I’ve finally got my P38 safe and Roadworthy having prized it from the clutches of an incompetent garage (see other posts regarding no brakes) -although they did f**k up the brand new oil cooler I fitted a month ago by stripping the threads somehow !

since I need to do that, and my aircon is now semi-working, I thought I’d tackle the Hevac Book
Symbol.

Nanocom reports a fault 28 LH Blower in Stop Mode.

having looked through the forums it seems that this could be a relay or it may be that the motor just needs replaced -ominously I think two old ‘spares’ came with the car when I bought it.

obviously the relay is an easy test (swap and see if the fault follows) but is replacing the LH blower a nightmare or is it less grim than, say, the blend motors or heater matrix ?

thanks again for all the help
Abs support,

Bob

Yep a piece of pish..

Lower the glove box down, remove the pozi screws from around the perimeter, and the entire thing sags..

Behind it is the blower, secured by 4 screws if memory serves, the upper most one is a pain in the arse if don't have a long screwdriver!

when the screws are out, pull the connectors off and it is out!

literally a 5 min job. ;)

That’s super news, I was fearing having to strip the whole bugger down to do blend flaps.
I’ve already had the glovebox out to replace the gas strut so it’s quite familiar !
Cheers

..... and if it is the motor, strip it and give it a good clean. You might want to grab one of these as well and fit for good measure seeings as they are cheap.

Ah. Is that the actual bit that sits on the blower motor ? (Or a ‘similar’ part ?)

I suspect the problem may have been caused by the leaky pollen filter housings (now sealed).

Going to look
At the relays and failing that, will remove / replace the blower.

thanks again

It is straight forward, the issue with renewing the resistor is most of the time the brushes are worn and in some cases the motor stops at a dead point on the commutator

Best buy parts when you can see what is worn.. .

Well, there’s a turn-up.

Finally managed to have a look in the fuse box, swapped relays 6 and 7, checked the fuses -replacing one grotty one which looks like it’s melted and voila !

The fault and the book symbol
Have gone and delightful cold air is pi*hing out of the correct vents !

I’m Fairly sure this won’t be the end of it but for now I’m a little bit shocked !

Oh... grotty fuse !

Result! Though you probably need to find out why

Yes, and I’m a wee bit alarmed about the melted fuse too. I suspect at some point the previous engine got a bit overexcited and, with the bubbled paintwork on the bonnet, it maybe was a bit of a fiery affair.

will have to keep an eye on things
