I have just taken the heater out because the fan kept blowing the fuse when turned on,I have taken the fan out of the heater and it will not spin freely,I have removed the circlip from the shaft but cannot remove the fan is there a way to get this off so I can get at the motor to see if I can lubricate it.If I have to replace the fan is there any difference between the early fan and the later one mine is a 1998 Defender. Thanks Gareth.

I did exactly the same with mine, removed the clip and nothing. Suspect you could get if off with a puller as it's a replacement part. If the motor is not turning when connected directly to a battery I suspect it's goosed. There is a difference with fans, these are available on fleabay but attract a premium, just keep looking as they sometimes are sold as a whole unit for £40-50.

I connected the fan to a battery when it was on the bench and it spun ok but when I disconnected the battery the fan would not spin freely so I think it's knackered, does anybody know the difference between the old and new blower motors as one is a lot dearer than the other.

The replacement motor I fitted didn't spin freely either, works fine under current. Yours might be fine?

They are a ****e design, the shaft bush is held between the pressed tin motor casing, bush dries out bush seizes to shaft bush spins in case = motor shagged almost impossible to lube even if you drill an access hole in the plastic fan itself, brand new cheapy motor will transform your car.

Fitted everything back together yesterday and it all seems to work fine, fitted a snow cowl so hopefully it will keep all the rain and crap from getting to the blower motor. Thanks to all that answered.
