Brought a Landy to LZ11. Yay!!
It must be my luck with taking Landy's to 'shows' n stuff.
Took Mulberry out on the local vintage car run this morning and didn't even manage to get to the first 'public' stop!!

Should have realised the bugger'd taken the 'ump first thing when he needed a clip wiv me stick to start. Then at the sponsor stops he was a right little **** to start and was making a funny noise which sounded to me and a few of the old spanner wielders from other marques a bit 'fanny' in tone. Drove through it and it subsided, then on the stop before the one I was going to pick my sprogs up, turned the key.... nothing.

Give the usual a tweak, the solenoid a clip wiv me stick, still nothing. Luckily, anuvver landy was in presence so he give me a 10 foot tug and we jumped it.

Gutted I had to bin the day. I'm suspecting the bloody starter solenoid as once bumped it runs tickity boo, just lucky that no work on Monday so can hopefully hunt out a solly locally - might even have one in a box down my container!

Does the 'massive' think solly for first point of contact??? its a 2.25 petrol on LPG

A jump lead from battery negative to engine block and a length of cable with a spade on from solenoid to touch to battery positive to bypass ignition would rule most other things out

Most of my gear is in the container and the container key is on wifey's keys plus I'm transportless! Doh!! It'll have to keep until tomorrow or monday as no doubt I'll be on paint search tomorrow for the lounge to be decorated.

You could strip a piece of wire out of something unimportant (like the vacuum cleaner/hairdryer/iron) to use as a touch wire to small terminal on the solenoid :)

Anything that conduct eelectrickery and a fair few amps will do for a temp earth so long as it'll touch the neg terminal and somewhere on the engine.....strip of steel, metal electric fence post, small child wrapped in tin foil....

^^^ or a politician with a steel spine - - - - oh no, sorry not been invented yet. ^^^

Got some new solly's while out and about today. Just happened to be passing bearmach, so thought, why not.

Got bitten by the shiny, shiny bug when in there mind - they'd had a full set of parabolics - still in the wrappings returned as an incorrect order and they just happened to stare at me in the way that naughty shiny bits do.... would've been rude not to for less than £170.

SWMBO went a bit ballistic as I was loading them in the back of the car. Standard - 'they were gonna need doing by this winter, luv' was my reply. Her response... seething 'Fine' and the 'ump for the rest of the day!

Just fitted new solly. Had to cross it to start it so the joys of earths n the spiders web of wiring now becomes my 'summer' project.
Least the bugger starts - thats a major headache over for later in the week, who know I might even get chance to chase some dirty 'earth' - I think thats the problem with the solly - its mounted on a plate under the old air box platform - so a new more earthy location will be sought. Oh and some wires might get retired and renewed in the process.

Old solly is riveted on, so have to find my likkle likkle drill or just go old school nutter bastard with chisel.

Sometimes - old school nutter bastard is the only way forward. How many times have we all tried to fernagle a nut, bolt or sommat else from the clutches of our Landys... spent hours trying to be firm yet gentle, then the mist decends and you break out the big 'ammer' and **** off chisel.... or for the more 'open' jobs - the angle grinder!!
