I went out tonight in 6" of snow in the 1990 200TDi with almost new BF Goodrich tyres on, and it was all over the joint! My '94 Peugeot 405 1.9TD FWD would have made it better with almost bald budget tyres!

First thing tomorrow I'll be swapping the wheels over from the '93 200TDi which is running on Michelin off road tyres that are superb on snow. Luckily, both Disco's have the same alloys so I can do a straight swap over and it won't look any different, but will handle much better on snow!
 
They All terrains? IV heard people saying thay are meant to be good in the snow?

My mud terrains are great.

My AT's performed brilliantly. Infact I've got my 90 down a couple of very steep singletrack roads that one guy in a Disco3 bottled on.
 
Mitchelin factory fit RR Classic I think they are Mitchelin x or sumthing. They have loads of smalll sips all around the outside. Damn good tyres are great in the snow I think BF goodrich react to tyre pressure alot!. might be worth letting them down a wee bit.

I think BF goodrich react to tyre pressure alot!. might be worth letting them down a wee bit.

I found that BFG a/t's did seem to perform better when soft. I didn't really notice any difference when I was on bfg muds.

Need to be realistic aswell stopping a landy on ice/snow/mud isn't easy techniques and driver can help but its down to good old physics agin and weight is your enemy every time! Also worth a note if the landy isn't setup well then no tyres will be any good. There was a 110 with non existant bushes driving on newish At's it was all over the place and when it was sorted th etracking was seriously out aswell all this made it undrivable on ice
 
yeah i just wanted to know if his bfg tyres where the same as mine as i am not fully convinced yet either but all the snow has gone from round here so i can't try them, but when we had snow and before i lowered the pressures the car was all over the show then i lowered them to 25 psi and they where better but only just atm i still think off road tyres will be better :confused:

There was no pet monkeys about unfortunately. The bloke in the Disco needed some driving tips. He hit the bank part way down the hill, bottled it and reversed back up the hill. I could believe it when these reversing light appeared. The 90 did me proud last week but cost crap loads in fuel.
 
Just taken off my mt's and put on my BFG AT's on my 90 what tyre pressure is best for ice
they are at 33 psi at the moment is it best to reduce that pressure.

I find that it will varey depending on the weight of your vehicle too. If you are spending time on tarmac too you don't want the pressure too low.
 
I used to rum my Mitchelin XCL's at 18psi (tubed) as they were a crap if I was doing anything high spedd then 25+psi but never really went too far out of town before the Tdi Conversion.
 
i got a/t's (225/75) on my 300tdi (1997) .. went laning on my way home from work.. looked like a tractor had got stuck b4 me, ruts bout 18inch deep everywhere.. snow and mud churned up.. avoided the worst and didnt have to use low range or diff lock.. and they aint new.. good fun though..
