help,

hi boys!

i think my turbo on my p38 may have stopped working, thus leaving me with an even more underpowered heap of german cr@p than it was when it was working!
it sounds like a bag of spanners, unlike its usual purr! it does have oil etc, and its no longer running on veg oil due to current temperature, so i'm fairly sure its just a breathing problem. the air filter is alright too.

also this evening i went through a lot of surface water and have a belt started squealing intermittantly. i'm sure that will be fine when it dries, (but a belt is easy anyway)

i'm not your average girly, last week i changed my air conditioning condensor radiator all by myself, and have to do my fuel sender this week sometime, but the sluggish driving has jumped to the top of the list ( i was thinking about getting it chipped)

anyone with any (helpful) advice will go onto my christmas list, and if you fancy a tinker (to save me breaking another nail) i'd be very grateful!

Could it be the veggie oil has blocked an injector? Not sure how these respond to pure veggie oil. Could try sticking Redex in the fuel filter and see if that clears anything out?

The turbo is pretty easy to see if you stick it on high-ride height and take the wheel arch liner out on the driver's side.

already on coil springs so that'll be tricy, and all seals and pipes etc are now silicone and definitely not clogged anywhere, it had redex last week when i did oil change cos i had half a pot leftover in the boot,
a friend said something about a valve that could be jammed? might have to get the service dvd out, but i'm shooting everyday this week, so hope i can fix i in the dark!

Check the pressure pipe from under the manifold to the MAP sensor on top of the fuel filter for blockages or splits. Also that the outlet on the manifold it fits on is clear and the MAP sensor itself is not blocked. Don't run on pure veggie oil at any time always mix 50-50 or 60-40 with diesel or you will gum up the FIP internals. Running off pure veggie oil can block the cat up or EGR valve if fitted with sticky gum also block your fuel filter. Look at the side of your chip pan for an illustration.

In tank pump.

definetly a possibility if been using veg oil,
or egr if fitted stuck half open usually accompanied by smoke,
or a loose or split turbo pipe, or connection, between them,
or blocked intercooler and pipes, possibly one has been disturbed when doing the aircon rad/condensor?
boost pipe sensor split or blocked as said already,

I use biofuel in mine that I produce. no issues with gumming up that way, as the biofuel is highly aggressive and cleans your tank and lines out within the first two weeks so you have to change the filter regularly.

I would check the fuel pump, as I go through one at least every 3 months, they never go in the same way either. sometimes it works but the gauge always reads empty, other times it will not start easily unless the tank is full, once it just ran like a kangaroo.

If you are changing the pump look up the article on this site for cutting the floor - it takes 1/10th of the time, especially as when you have gone through one pump, you will probably be changing it again.

next thing on my list anyway, as fuel guage not great, just looking through dvd to find out exactly how to get to in tank pump! dont want to be ripping carpet up unneccisarily! (awful spelling, been wallowing under my bonnet all day doing Hydraulic damper - tensioner roller, and a nice scummy oil change!) (most importantly diddnt break a nail!)

great thanks for that, currently on the manual trying to see how to do it, so i guess dropping the fuel tank is the other way to do it!

Every 3 months? WFT?! Well, that's put me clean off biodiesel!

Are you washing all the methanol out before use? What sort of replacement pump are you putting in? I've heard of Lucas pumps burning out.

what about the waste gate on the turbo loosing boost?? just an idea. when u say it sounds like a bag of spanners is that on tickover or with engine reved up? what about an injector tip?
