I had a look at these exhausts when I had my Rav4, and was close to buying. But seeing it on a FL........ it's quite smart. And, in my opinion, if someone wishes to trick out their car, then more power to them. Painting it purple and lighting it up like a Christmas tree isn't my cuppa, but why not?? Even that hideous green thing I saw on here a while back was someone's pride and joy at one time................. :eek:

yes I think had one was taken a bit far! The exhaust is the only shiny thing I'm considering, other than that it's all AT accessories like rock sliders etc.
 
how much does a disco fuel tank hold freelanders are 69 ltrs and I got about 430 as the red light came on and the light coming on means it has about 4and a half ltrs left

I think the ECU tune is the key but on a standard tune the engine felt weaker in the mid range.
But its a seat of the pants feeling not scientific:)
There's a corsa down our street with a "drain pipe" sticking out the back
thats so flat that when he puts it in top it just go's blaaargh and it needs shifting back to get the revs up till he reaches the down hill and can shift to top again, you can hear it going up and down the box all the way up the by pass :crazy_driver:
And we are not talking about steep inclines here just a normal A49 slope

Exhaust design is a complex subject!! Oddly a massive pipe will loose torque over a correctly sized pipe!! The trick with exhaust design is to get the gas moving up the pipe as fast as possible with a minimum of back pressure! This way the energy stored as momentum as the gas travels down the pipe can be used to pull the next fresh air charge into the next cylinder to fill. This happens over a very narrow band in the rev range so with careful design it can boost mid range torque or rite at the top of the rev range giving maximum power.
It's hard to achieve this on a road legal exhaust as they need a cat to pass the Mot and sadly a cat doesn't flow gas very well!! There are performance cats available but they still don't allow maximum power. Of course all this exhaust improvement is pretty wasted if the ecu can't fuel the engine correctly!! What you found is pretty normal but as the ecu is adaptive if you had driven the car for a couple of tanks of fuel it would have done it's best to adapt the fueling for the new operating conditions, you can feel a similar effect if you drive the car with blowing exhaust for any length of time as the ecu will adapt to that condition then when you put a new exhaust section in and the blowing stops the car will feel sluggish as the ecu mapping is now out until it adapts again. However a re-map would be the key to maximum power with any mod!! The 118 bhp K4 will make over 135 bhp with a good exhaust system, a decent cold air free flowing air filter and a re-map.
There is even more power to be had if the MG TF135 cams are fitted ;)

300tdi get a about 32 on the motorway and 20 round town but lost of my driving is dual carriageway or motorway so a tank gets me about 350-400 depending
do a combination of a roads & duallies, 60 mile commute, getting 580 miles a tank in my 2003 td4:p, much better than a disco or 'fender:)
 
There is even more power to be had if the MG TF135 cams are fitted ;)

Peak power is at 2750rpm for K4 FL1, 3000rpm for K4 rovers and MG's

Did LR tweak the MEMS, or have slightly different cam angles?
I did ask this question on MG forums, but still remains unanswered.
 
I bought a SS exhausts from Rimmers a few years back, the mount welds failed within the first week, then heat shield welds gave way

IMHO this twin tail pipes look tacky on the FL1, they sit too low and will prob not increase performance, just noise.

a de-Cat and straight through mid pipe are the way to go

Yes it's the only way to gain power!! There is no point in paying a higher insurance premium and gain nothing but some bling!!

Not worried about insurance, more the thieving magpies.

I cant source a sports mid section on its own, Rimmers only sell the mid pipe and backbox together.

One could be fabricated, but costly from a custom/after market supplier
 
So getting rid of the middle silencer would geta bit more power eh? Interesting. Would it be something insurance would take issue with?

In my experience the mid section is a strait through silencer so is the least restrictive!! The cat and rear box are the bits that cost torque ;)
Insurance company's will find any way to ether put up the premium or avoid paying out at all!!
