I have the dreaded symbol up on my climate display. Ive always just thought it was the blend motors, but ive just recently noticed when the weather is cooler the symbol goes away and works fine.
So this is making me think its possibly something different. Can anyone shed any light for me
Many thanks
Matt

hmmmm, this may not help at all but when i had my dodgy door latch problem a few weeks ago it would only happen when it was warm/hot outside. when it was cold it was ok which basically led me to believe that as something got warmer it expanded and thus jammed in one posistion causing the door to tell the computer that it was open and then set off the alarm etc etc. before i replaced the door latch it almost got so bad you could set your watch on it. the P38 is parked on the driveway and as the sun comes up it hits the front of the house and at about 9:30-10am every morning is when the alarm would start (which, to be honest, is a pretty rubbish alarm). As soon as I replaced the latch the problem was gone.

So my guess is what I said above. Could the same thing be happening with your blend motors?? If it is the blend motors the book symbol shows as soon as the vehicle is started. It doesnt come on after a few mins etc. If this is what you have then try and figure out which blend motor has gone (its usually the distributuion flap) - clicky!

I had a blend motor problem not so long ago as well (infact my P38 has really tested my patience alot lately but I still love it!! :D) and the book symbol came on as soon as I started. Luckily (touches wood) for me the distribution flap had just got 'stuck' and needed 'unsticking'. I only found this out after removng the instrument binnacle trim and then having the vehicle running and trying to select different airflow posistions. I could see that the motor was not moving anything so a gentle tap with a screwdriver and a bit of a nudge got the whole thing going again and it has worked perfectly since (touches wood some more). Id suggest trying the diagnosis operation above and then if it is the ditribution flap, trying what I did and giving it a gentle tap and see if you can get it going again :)

Let us know how you get on

My aircon wouldnt work, plugged in testbook and got a load of faults. So tested the aircon system tryed to recharge it and the pipe from the reciever failed. so I know now i had a faulty pipe cost 12 quid to replace now i just need to recharge it

Which bits do you need to remove to check the "flap" my book symobl is on now and all seems to work properly. Would changing the airflow from one place to another say screen to floor try to make this flap move?
Thanks Alan

You don’t say whether the air con is still working or not? If it is still working, could possibly be fault blend motor or sticking flap, (can you adjust temp on both sides and can you move flow from screen to floor) if aircon is not working it’s more likely to be the trinary pressure switch. I had exact same symptoms (till it completely failed) it turned out to be left hand blend motor
hope this helps

the air con does not work, it changes from cold to warm on both sides, but whenthe symbol comes on it just blows hot air on the left

if you need any help with the a/c system, i,am moblie a/c engineer who works around the mk area and have about 8 years experiance on land rovers and other cars i also have a p38!!! mail me back if i can help

If it does not change temp on left hand side this is most likely left hand blend motor failure (although the air con should still work, there maybe more than one fault). There is a guide for changing one on www.rangerovers.net, if you get this done at a dealer expect to pay 8 hrs labor plus parts. Land rover sell bend motors in packs of 3 (even though only 1 is required) for around £200 Inc vat. lrdirect will split a pack and charge £90 Inc vat. I deiced to change it myself; it was no where near as hard as I thought it was going to be, took about 2 hrs. If you don't want attempt it yourself I saw some one advertising on eBay to change one for £300, I think this included parts.
any way good luck.
