Afternoon.
Trying to bleed clutch.... New master and slave cylinders fitted and fluid right through to slave. Pretty sure all air is out now but when I press the pedal fluid comes through the tiny air hole on the master cylinder lid. And pedal has no / very little resistance. Could it be a master cylinder? Any ideas appreciated....

What engine/ Gearbox?

not sure about the hole in the master cylinder lid, do you mean the reservoir? If so , I think mine is solid so fluid cannot escape, But I have not looked that closely.

Have you tried reverse bleeding?

Also are you bleeding on the flat? or with the front raised?

IS the slave cylinder on correct , with the bleed point at the top?.

Hi Neilly. 200tdi,
yes tried reverse bleeding but still nothing. Its on the flat in the shed and yes slave cylinder definately on correctly. There is a tiny hole in the centre of the reservoir cap.
4 hours so far....usually it takes me 10 mins.

Some people seem to think that keeping the clutch pedal pushed in with a block of wood or similar and leaving for a long while ( 12 Hours ) allows any air to escape. Not sure it helped with mine.

May be worth raising the front of the landy so you know the air in the slave cylinder is right by the bleed nipple when you open it.

Thanks for reply. I will go back out and raise the front end try again!!! Ah the joys.
 
Nope....still the same. With bleed nipple on slave open pedal pushes fluid through. Close nipple and pedal goes to floor but fluid comes out vent hole on reservoir cap. Tried using one man bleed kit there... attached to tyre with 20psi. No air in system....

You say you fitted a brand new master cyclinder. Have you got the cap of off the old one?

The correct answer was indeed the master cylinder. It was a no-name one and it has been launched across the yard into the scrap pile.
New TRW cylinder fitted and clutch now 100%
Lesson learnt : dont buy cheap crap for things you want to work....
