The only way to speed it up is a complete re-install when it runs fast for a few months. Still the fastest Windows computer in my collection is Win 95. It's all designed to slow down over time, so, as the adverts say, "slow computer? time to buy a new one"

That's because you are getting rid of all the crap then it builds up again and slows it down. As said try Ccleaner and defrag the disc. .Delete all but the latest restore point.

Done all that, make a small difference. Defrag is done on a regular basis.

The UK government are paying Microshyte millions a year to support XP.

They were. There was a registry key you added to get the same protection. I am not sure if they still are, although they may have reinstated it since that big ransomeware attack and they realised it was embedded in a load of scanners and so forth. I'll bet there's a shed load of equipment out there with embedded Linux that is never patched and just wide open to the chinese and russian hackers.

Had to quit Firefox as it's no longer supported on XP. Currently using Opera which is Chrome based and still supported.

I stopped using Opera when they started logging everything I did.
