Gidday,

On the hunt for advice again.
Every now and again my suspension faults and i have to hook up my BBS fault mate to clear the fault and then the suspension works fine for a couple of weeks.
Today, my BBS failed to communicate with the vehicle communications interface, whatever the hell that means. It has done this once before, and i hooked it up to my pc and it worked ok through the pc and then worked fine in stand alone mode. It now fails to communicate in stand alone mode and through the pc. Any ideas, as i had a very uncomfortable ride home this evening, and the longer it is off the road the more petrol i have to put in my gas guzzling 110.

Powering down the Faultmate and rebooting it sometimes works. Also make sure you are on the latest Blackbox software and firmware. Could possibly be a problem with the com port on your PC.
The Blackbox support forum should be able to help.

If you get the free EAS software and lead as well and you get it to work OK it will prove the OBD socket on the car is OK.

check fuse 33 (fairly certain its this one, but will show on the fusebox lid), this is purely for the diagnostics.

Is it connecting to any other ECU?

I haven't tried to connect to another ecu, but will give it a blast in the morning. I will also check the fuse 33, but the stand alone server powers up when the obd11 plug is connected so i figure that fuse 33 will be supplying the power.

Where do i details about get the free eas software and lead ?

The EAS oftware is free, the lead ain't, mine is cheapest. PM me if you are interested.
If you unplugged the Faultmate before it had got to complete what it was doing and in a rest state it's possible that you have corrupted the flash memory:eek:

Pin 11 received data, pin 12 transmitted data (from PC) pin 1 request to send, required to start communication pin 5 signal ground.

If i have corrupted the flash memory, is it something i can reset?
I was nice and gentle to start with but then in anger and frustration i started wiggling the plugs around and probably made and broke circuits whilst doing so.
I had a quick look in the light of day this morning and there is some corrosion around one end of the plug. I will try and get another plug from a wreck today and wire it in tonight nad see if i have i bit more joy.

If you have corrupted the flash memory in your Faultmate it's back to BBS I'm afraid. Look at the BBS forum, a few have managed to do it.

Have you done a continuity test on the obd lead?

Constant use of the leads sometimes causes a break in one of the wires at one of the pins itself.

Yup, done a continuity test on the leads, and all appears to be ok, still no joy. Found a couple of corroded terminals on the OBD11 plug itself, so i replaced them, and i am still going to work in the 110. Time to investigate the Black box forum i think.

Here i am again, same problem, haven't driven the rangy for weeks now and the government are making plenty out of all the fuel my 110 uses, so i am back into it with a vengeance. (the weather's a bit warmer, and the nights a bit lighter so i am more inclined when i get home from work to have a crack.)
I have (courtesy of Datatek) a working copy of rsw solutions EAS unlock suite, but i am still unable to unlock my eas. I set up the comm port, as per the instruction and initialize the program and everything appears to be as it should, i get good idle message on the computer program, FF on both the outgoing and incoming thingy's i select read faults and it comes up with 2 faults. FR signal incorrect and RR signal incorrect. Then i click on unlock eas and nothing happens. I've been to a couple of the other tools on the program, and they all seem to work. I can turn the compressor on and off, if go to calibrate, i can hear the valves opening and closing in the control box , but it just doesn't seem to do anything when i hit the unlock eas on any of the function pages. If i ask the program to do anything, the buffer thingy's slow momentarily while it 's doing its bit, but it doesn't slow when i hit unlock. Anybody have any ideas?

Where is the C117 eas multi plug?

If the faults do not clear it's because they are hard faults. Sounds like you have had something attack the front right and rear right heights sensors. Check the connectors and the linkages to the sensors:)

Gidday again,

Had a bit more of a play, and made some slight progress. I found the C117 eas plug, unplugged it and plugged it back in. Started up up the rsw program and had another crack. Same result, but i did notice that when i unlock the EAS the rx buffer does stop momentarily and then continues. If i follow the instructions as per video, then the EAS seems to unlock for a few seconds and then faults again almost straight away. I doubt that it was anything to do with unplugging the C117 plug but i just didn't notice earlier what was happening. It's a bit late now, so will have to have another play tomorrow.

Any ideas on what i should be looking for? I doubt that two hard faults would occur simultaneously but i am open to suggestions. I will check the plugs and connections to the sensors tomorrow. I also wonder if because they are both the same side that it maybe something simple like a fuse. I will investigate some more tomorrow.

Cheers

It will not be a fuse. Like I said, something may have flicked up off the road and damaged the sensors/loom/ linkages on that side. Otherwise look for connector corrosion at the sensors and ECU.
Why do people never believe the faults recorded and start looking elsewhere:confused:

c117????

Gidday,

As i am back on the forum in search of advice again, i thought it may be a good idea to update this post.

Ifinally decided to follow Datateks advice and i checked the wiring to both right hand ride height sensors. I crawled under my sitting on the bumpstops rangy, through the 10 inches of grass and weeds and unplugged the sensors. I sprayed them with contact cleaner and plugged them back in, ran the eas software (supplied by Datatek) on my laptop, and away she went. Hows that for an easy fix? it only took me about seven weeks to sort out.

Still waiting for my Faultmate extreme to return from cyprus. DHL COURIERS have it held in customs for the best part of a month and they want more money. What a rip off. It would have been quicker if it had been sent with santa. Good job i'm not in a rush.

Thanks for the help Datatek.
