i have land rover td4 2.0l diesel gs, when i start it lots black smoke billo from engine and exhurst. i have been told could be turbo or anyone of the pipes. any help would be grate thanks.

First thing to check lift bonnet and at the front left of the engine will be a big black hose from the intercooler check if it has a hole underneath it usually rubs a hole on the cover bolt if their is replace the pipe 2 mins work and £12 for after market piece then goes boot the crap out of it up the road to clear all the soot out of the car

i have checked all hoses all seem fine. under the bonnet on drivers side the smoke is coming from seems behind the engine jet black smoke.

could this be that little breather they put on them that every mechanic forgets to change and the injun goes bang after a while ? im told there is such a thing

Over fueling.

Check air is not restricted, is the air inlet blocked?

Check air filter is not blocked or very dirty?

I had the same thing happen to my RRV. It turned out to be the injector hose had split between the intercooler and the turbo. It happened at the lights when I went to pull away, lost all power and had plumes of smoke billowing out of the back of my RR. The pipe costs about £80 + labour to fit. Very easy fix if that's what's gone on yours. I had a couple of goes at getting it fitted as it is apparently very hard to get the hose fitted and jubilee clips tightened.

Good luck!

Matt.
