Hi
I am new to the board and after some advice. I have to confess i have no mechanical knowledge but dont want to get fobbed off when i take my FL2 Diesel to the garage

Freelander has developed a missfire at low speed and is chucking out black smoke....lots of it! Called the AA and he said possible EGR valve but no engine management light is on so tricky to detect.

We were on holiday with caravan and decided to continue home, the smoke was bellowing out on the motorway lol! Temp stayed ok still no lights on dash. Slight lack of power on hills with van.

Ran some redex in a full tank but still black and grey smoke (not blue). Car is easy to start and no smoke on tick over.

Have it Booked it in garage this week. Could it be EGR valve or hoses ????? Is there anything i can simply check myself? Any advice appreciated. :)

Thx Matt.

Yes, sounds like turbo. EGR valve sticking can affect performance but shouldn't be that bad - wouldn't make it smoke.

Quite common for the turbo pipe to split , the one that goes into the throttle body at the front of the engine.

Hi Guys,
Thx for the advice asked the garage to check hoses and sure enough massive split in hose like you all suggested. £120 job done.

(well almost they ordered wrong pipe lol! Job doen tomorrow lol!!!)

Thank you much appreciated Matt.
