Am new to this forum so apologies if this has been asked before.

I have a late 2007 FL2 GS TD4 which has done 49k miles.

Recently there has been an annoying smell of burning oil entering the cabin on hard acceleration and when slowing dwon. I think I have tracked this down to some oil like substance oozing out of the air filter to engine pipe. This is coming from the joint at the left side (looking from front) of the engine which is after the connection to what, I presume, is the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) inlet to the air intake. Indeed when I took the pipe off to clean it out then there was no "gunk" to the air filter side of that connection. The Oil/gunk slowly drips onto the hot engine and cause the smell. I have taken the pipes off, cleaned them out and made sure they are seated correctly but the problem has recurred within a week.

So the question is .. is the gunk simply a by product of the EGR system and/or do I can do anything to rectify this seepage. I know that on a number of other vehicles that the EGR is ofen blanked off .. is this an option too ?

you could try cleaning the egr and then remove the small pipe from the egr (put a small screw in the pipe and rose tie out of the way)this will disable the valve and not allow exhaust gases to recirculate.

I think this is not possible on the F2 as unlike the F1 the EGR valve is a more integral part of the emissions setup and ECU issues will occure if disabled.

Is a blocked filter common on this engine and can anyone explain how I get to the filter to unblock it ?
All I can see is a pipe going behind the enigine so not sure where to look.

Thx

crank case breather filter blocked?

Once again, does a F2 even have one?

I would be surprised if such a modern vehicle has one, it was bad enough on the F1 but surely the new engine has done away with this antiquated item?

Well.............. The fault you described is common to all pre 10MY FL2s.

Clean it out , seal it on with flexigasket, drink beer!

The oil being there isnt an issue, although it will also be leaking off your engine cover , down onto the EGR and exhaust manifold and also your turbo. The heat from these is probably what is causing the smell :)

Hi Vissie .. thnaks for the info. Sounds like it is normal ?

Just to be clear are you suggesting that I use the flexigasket to seal round the left hand air filter tube joint with the heavy duty spring clip.

Would it be the fact it was taken apart recently have triggered the leak and how exactly have they fixed it in the latest models ?
