What is the black gunk that insulates/fills the gaps between the different parts of the bulkhead/seatbox/floor/gear box shroud etc? Is it something specific or could I just use silicon/earwax/bubblegum?

Dum Dum putty.
Probably not made anymore or has had a name change. Basically it's a non setting mastic.

Wurth seam sealer
H.B body brushable seam sealer

tiger seal may have been another, seems to have popped into my head

the wurth may be hard to get over here but the hb stuff is available

Tiger Seal was suggested to me three years ago when I started this long winded affair....... Thanks for the suggestions.
